muncie civic theatre

Muncie Civic Theatre was founded in 1931 and  is one of the oldest civic theatres in the state and is located in one of the oldest theaters in the country. The Muncie Civic Theatre Association was started by William H. Ball who served as board president for the first decade of the theatre’s existence.

We are now in our 90th Season providing East Central Indiana with a variety of high quality entertainment and events performed by community members for the community

The Boyce Block

Muncie Civic is located in the historic Boyce Block in the heart of Downtown Muncie, Indiana.

The Boyce Block was built in 1880 and has witnessed many key events in Muncie’s history.

  • The site of negotiations and signing of the contract that brought the Ball Brothers’ glass-making factory to Muncie
  • A Prohibition-era Vaudville theatre
  • Hosting the Marx Brothers and Red Skelton

Organizational Skills

  • Ability to manage multiple production budgets
  • Oversees shop safety and cleanliness

Communication Skills

  • Communicates effectively with staff, volunteers, and production teams

Technology Skills

  • Program and design sound (digital board) and lights for theatrical productions. Familiar with other various theatrical equipment.

 

Requirements:

  • Available to work nights and weekends
  • Must be willing to complete a background check and sign Muncie Civic Theatre’s Sexual Harassment and Social Media policies

 

Duties:

  • With support of the Artistic Director, establishes technical production teams for Mainstage and Studio shows: Lighting Designers, Sound Designers, Prop Support, Set Dressing, Backstage Crew
  • With support of the Artistic Director, advances the production calendars of Mainstage and Studio shows
  • Works with production teams to set realistic build schedules and oversees set construction
  • Establishes a plan for a load-in / hang and focus schedule
  • Works with the production team to create the tech week and strike schedule
  • Manages production budgets for Mainstage and Studio shows
  • Attends tech week rehearsals
  • Keeps a log of production volunteers and for addition in Playbills
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and organized scene shop, adhering to Fire Marshall Standards
  • Manages and trains shop support staff
  • Maintains safety standards for the rigging and fly system, and trains volunteers
