January 9th-February 21st (Performances February 19th-21st)
For Grades 3rd -12th
Through the Shakespeare Showcase, young performers will be given opportunities to be exposed to and perform authentic unabridged Shakespearean pieces as well as adapted versions to help them appreciate the Shakespearean tale. Actors will grow in their acting capacities, learning things like fight choreography and how to bring a Shakespearean Monologue to life in a powerful way. Students will also be able to identify how Shakespearean stories are connected to our current world.
Actors will be put in groups and be assigned one Shakespearean piece to study deeply. Groups will be determined based on meeting availability, age, and show interest. We hope to have 2-4 different groups studying titles such as Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hamlet, King Lear, or As You Like It.
Students will meet on Saturdays for 2-4 hours each week. Tech week will be February 15th-18th. Students will meet in groups with 10 to 15 kids total at the theatre wearing masks and taking other safety precautions. Please note that we are prepared to move this experience to a completely virtual experience, if we are no longer able to safely meet in person.
For the Showcase performance, each group will do an adapted performance of their story, at least one scene performed unabridged, and another focused topic performance like fight choreo or monologues depending on their story and the actors’ interests.
